The most common reason clothes bought online don't work out is size. The good news: with a measuring tape and five minutes, you can pick the right size almost every time. Here's how.
What you need
- A soft measuring tape (a tailor's tape)
- A well-fitting top or kurta you already own
- A mirror, or someone to help
How to measure yourself
- Bust: measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape level under your arms.
- Waist: measure around your natural waist, the narrowest part above your belly button.
- Hip: measure around the fullest part of your hips, with your feet together.
- Length: for tops and kurtas, measure from the highest point of the shoulder (next to the neck) down to where you want the hem to fall.
Keep the tape snug but not tight, and measure over light clothing.
How to read a size chart
Every product on SkyTrend has its own size chart in inches. Important: the chart usually shows the garment's measurements, not body measurements. So:
- Pick the size where the garment's bust is about 2–4 inches more than your body bust for a comfortable fit.
- For a relaxed or loose look, go up one size.
- For bottoms with an elastic waist, focus on the hip measurement. The waist will stretch.
The easiest trick: compare with clothes you own
Lay a well-fitting top flat, measure it from armpit to armpit and double the number. That's its bust. Compare it with the product's size chart and choose the closest size.
If you're between two sizes
- Choose the larger size for cotton (it can shrink slightly after washing) and for structured fabrics like denim.
- Choose the smaller size for soft, flowy fabrics like rayon and crepe if you prefer a closer fit.
