Double-sided fashion tape is the small trick stylists use to keep outfits looking perfect: necklines stay put, shirts stop gaping between buttons, and straps don't slip. Used the right way, nobody will ever know it's there.
When to use fashion tape
- Deep V or plunging necklines that shift when you move
- Button-down shirts that gape at the chest
- Off-shoulder and wrap tops that slide out of place
- Bra straps peeking out from wide necklines
- Quick hem fixes on trousers or dupattas when there's no time to stitch
How to apply it, step by step
- Start with clean, dry skin. Lotion, oil, sweat or perfume weakens the hold. Wipe the area and let it dry first.
- Stick it to the fabric first. Peel one side and press the strip on the inside edge of the garment, a few millimetres in from the edge so it can't be seen.
- Put the garment on, then press. Peel the second backing and press the fabric firmly onto your skin for about 5 seconds.
- Use more than one strip for long edges. For a deep neckline, place 2–3 strips along each side rather than one long piece.
Tips for an all-day hold
- Avoid bending or folding the strip while applying. Lay it flat.
- On humid days, blot the skin with a tissue before pressing.
- For fabric-to-fabric fixes (like a gaping shirt), stick both sides to fabric, not skin.
How to remove it
Peel slowly, holding the skin taut, in the direction of hair growth. If it feels stuck, a little baby oil loosens the adhesive. For delicate fabrics like silk or satin, test on an inside seam first.
Is it safe for skin?
Good fashion tape is made for skin contact, but everyone's skin is different. If yours is sensitive, try a small strip on your inner arm for a couple of hours before wearing it for a full day.
